HS Registration Day
How is it possible that time blew by so fast and it's already time for Trey to be entering High School? I've been contemplating this question for several months and have yet to determine an answer.
Be that as it may, the day came to register the boy so together Fabio and I journeyed to the high school. We stood in line with the rest of the shocked parents and waited our turn to begin the gauntlet course of document checking and name finding.
At the second table Trey walks up behind Fabio and I and the lady notices him and says, "Is this your son? Is he a Freshman because this is Freshmen only day".
"Yes", I said, "this is him. I assure you he is a freshman. And no he's not stupid and hasn't been held back, he's just turned 14 like all the other freshmen."
"He's so tall", and gestures to the two boys standing with their families on either side of Trey. "Those boys seem more like freshman." These two poor kids had to be at least six inches shorter than the boy. Poor little dwarfs. Trey is of course eating this up, so I give her a quick sneer and we move on to the next table.
Next was the spirit table where they tried to relieve us of some cash in exchange for some black T-shirts saying "Blackout". $15 for that? don't think so! Then the long line at the medical table to make sure we'd gotten him all his shots and signed all of the forms.
Waiting at the end of the hall was the den of evil harpies known as Cheerleaders (sorry Chan, you of course were never a harpie), in uniform, handing out ID cards.
We give Harpie #1 his name. He's gone by "Fabio" rather than "Trey" at school for several years. "Fabio? Your name is Fabio? What a cool name!". Please use your best sing-song airhead voice when reading these lines. And in his best cool-studly-voice Trey replies, "yeah"
Well! Then Harpie #2, we'll just call her "Miss Perky" saunters around the table with her best perky-sing-song voice and says "Oh My God, are you the Fabio that's going to be in the STEM Academy?"
Trey, in his cool-studly-voice, "Yeah"
"Oh My God, I'm going to be seeing SO MUCH of YOU becuase I'm in STEM too!!!"
So then I'm desperately trying to run inventory of my purse wondering if I'd remembered my pepper spray, mace, or maybe the tazer but alas no.
Fabio is bubbling over wanting to get a chance to high five the boy. I wanted to pepper spray all of them. Mental note, go stock up on pepper spray.
Before the elder Fabio can make an attempt to get the girl's phone number for the boy I drag them to the next station up the stairs to find out that for his AP Physics class we have to purchase a fancy engineering calculator, $100 or so. For the 9th grade? I didn't have to have that for College, egads!
More spirit tables of all kinds of clothing, the PTA, Band boosters, Mums, Meal ticket, book covers... Good grief! And all the two Fabio's can talk about is Miss Perky in her little skirt. Evidently they are going to dinner tonight to celebrate. Geez.
As soon as I'm finished with this blog I'm going to see about a strait jacket, nice comfortable bench for the closet and a feeding tube because Trey won't be leaving the confines of his closet for quite a while.
